The most anticipated new resort in St Maarten in years has opened its doors, Caribbean Journal has learned.
The Morgan Resort, set in the heart of Simpson Bay, is a major new resort for the destination.
The hotel officially opened June 1 with a sleek look at the corner of Simpson Bay close to Princess Juliana International Airport.
The resort has as total of 124 rooms and suites, with a contemporary design centered around a beach-style finite pool — and a rooftop observation deck perfect for checking out the landings at the airport.
All of the rooms have views of either the infinity pool and the Caribbean Sea or the jets at Princess Juliana; that’s along with a collection of penthouse suites with master bedrooms, separate living areas and dining space for social gatherings.
Each room has a spa-style bathroom, a 55-inch flat-screen TV and free Wi-Fi, among other touches.
The dining program is highlighted by an eatery called SALT, helmed by Top Chef alum Ron Duprat, long one of the region’s leading chefs and advocates for Caribbean cuisine.
Duprat has teamed up with Executive Chef David Seeman on a French Caribbean menu “blending bold flavors with health dishes and locally source seafood,” according to the resort.
The eatery is joined by a pair of bars, including the beach-style swim-up bar called “Bar M” (it’s even home to a blackjack table).
St Maarten is currently open for tourism; you can find more on the destination’s protocols here.
