Caribbean-Mexico Hotel Construction Pipeline Rises to 28,698 Rooms

There are now 28,698 rooms in the Caribbean-Mexico hotel construction pipeline, according to new data from STR.

The end of January data represented a 6.8 percent increase in rooms under contract, compared with January 2014, and a 7.6 percent increase in rooms under construction.

Rooms in the “under contract” phase include those in the In Construction, Final Planning and Planning stages, according to STR.

Among hotels in the chain scale segments, the upper upscale segment reported the largest increase in rooms under contract, up 34.6 percent with 4,529 rooms.

That was followed by the midscale segment, which saw 25.9 percent growth with 2,717 rooms and the upscale segment, which saw 17.8 percent growth with 6,109 rooms, according to the report, which comes out monthly.
