The government of Cyprus is keen on sharing its “best practices” with Barbados in the area of tourism.

Cyprus’ High Commissioner to the country, Georgios Chacalli, recently paid a visit on Minister of Foreign Affairs Senator Maxine McClean in Bridgetown, to further discuss the idea.

“We could look to see how we can exchange best practices when it comes to banking and the tourism industry, and perhaps Barbados would be interested in these experiences,” Chacalli said.

Chacalli, who is based in Washington, also said the two sides could work together in green energy, an area in which Cyprus has seen much success.

Indeed, the Mediterranean country is now 100 percent solar powered for household heating and cooling.

Cyprus has also mandated all hotels to establish their own desalination units.

“That again is something we can look at,” McClean said of the deslination idea. “For example, we have on the cards the construction of some new hotels and that may be a consideration. Our hotels are also on the coast, so that again allows for easier utilization of that type of cooperation.”
