St Kitts and Nevis, Antigua Shaken By 4.3-Magnitude Earthquake

An earthquake struck the northeastern Caribbean on Friday evening, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The 4.3-magnitude quake struck at around 9:56 PM local time about 44 kilometres west of Codrington, Barbuda, about 69 kilometres northeast of Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis and about 170 kilometres north-northwest of Lamentin, Guadeloupe.

The quake struck at a depth of 53 kilometres, according to the USGS.

There were reports of light shaking centered around St Kitts and Nevis, with the strongest shaking reported around Trinity Palmetto Point parish in St Kitts, about 91 kilometres away from the epicentre.

The quake was the latest in what has been an active year for earthquakes in the wider Caribbean region.

There were no reports of damage or injuries.
