Antigua and Barbuda has appointed former LIAT CEO Brian Challenger as the country’s new non-resident Ambassador to Latin America.

Challenger will serve as the country’s representative to Latin American countries including Brazil and Venezuela.

“I feel extremely honoured and humbled that the Prime Minister and Government of Antigua and Barbuda have entrusted me with this great responsibility,” Challenger said. “I endeavor to represent my country to the best of my ability. I look forward to this exciting and challenging opportunity to serve my country at this level as Antigua and Barbuda seeks to expand and deepen relations with the countries of Latin America.”

Challenger’s career has also included stints at the OECS Secretariat in St Lucia and several other public service positions in Antigua’s government.

The government said Challenger’s appointment was part of a thrust “to strengthen its relations with Brazil and other Latin American states.”

Challenger resigned as Acting CEO of LIAT at the end of April. He had served in the post since 2009.
