The Rosalie Bay Resort has been named a finalist for the United States Secretary of State’s Award for Corporate Excellence for 2012.

The award, which was established by the State Department in 1999, recognizes the role played by US businesses abroad as good corporate citizens.

Rosalie Bay is one of 11 finalists around the globe, a group which includes major corporations like Microsoft and General Motors.

Rosalie Bay Resort, which is owned by Minnesota native Beverly Deikel, is the only Green Globe-certified resort in Dominica.

The eco-boutique resort is also home to the only sea turtle conservation programme on the island, which has helped significantly increase the number of sea turtle nests on the island.

“More than 10 years ago, we embarked on a journey to create a boutique resort that would protect the environment and its resources, empower the local residents with job training and opportunities and share the beauty of the Nature Island with travelers,” Deikel said. “It is fulfilling to see this dream become a reality, and rewarding to witness the positive impact we have made in the community and environment.”

The award winners will be announced in Washington in December.

Chevron, Ashgabat
• Esso Angola, Luanda
• General Motors, Tashkent
