Haiti Tourism Minister Stephanie Villedrouin met this week with representatives of 12 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean to present on Haiti’s current tourism projects.

Haiti, which has already signed a tourism agreement with Mexico, plans to sign an agreement with Ecuador next month in the areas of agro-tourism and tourism legislation and promotion.

Villedrouin’s meetings came with diplomats from Argentina, Chile, Cuba, Mexico, the Bahamas, Panama the Dominican Republic, Venezuela and from Spain, because of the latter’s relationship with Latin American countries.

Villedrouin outlined her Ministry’s tourism policy, which is based primarily on professional and continuing education, regulation, development and promotion.

According to the Minister, domestic training can help curb the import of labour and promote job creation within the country.

She also focused on regulation for a tourism sector that has a “nonexistent” regulatory framework.

Villedrouin departed Wednesday for a promotion trip in Canada and New York.
