Dominica’s government will remain “resolute” in its support for Venezuela’s PetroCaribe Energy Agreement, according to Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit.

The Prime Minister was speaking at a ceremony to mark the seventh anniversary of the signing of the agreement, which has funded a number of projects across Dominica.

“We appreciate the importance of PetroCaribe to every single Dominican walking the streets of Dominica,” he said. “I can say without any fear of contradiction that the PetroCaribe Agreement is the life blookd of many countries in the Caribbean and Latin America.”

Projects on Dominica that have received PetroCaribe support include the Salybia Primary School, the Housing Revolution programme, the marine sea defence walls in Scotts Head, Soufriere and Tan Tan and the new plant in Jimmit.

The PetroCaribe agreement was signed by 12 members of the Caribbean Community, along with Cuba and the Dominican Republic, in 2005.

Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago did not sign the agreement, however.

Honduras and Guatemala are also members.
