Aeromexico Is Now Flying Daily Nonstop From Miami to Cancun, Which Keeps Adding New Hotels
With the seemingly never-ending stream of visitors that have been flocking to Cancun in the last few years, it’s been easy to overlook just how many new hotels have been opening in the Mexican Caribbean hotspot.
From Marriott’s new luxury all-inclusive on Isla Mujeres (which just opened last month) to a brand-new SLS in the so-called “New Cancun,” the area continues to be a hotbed for hotel development — with more options than ever.
That also means that airlines continue to add flights to Cancun International Airport, including national flag carrier Aeromexico, which just added an important new route from one of the Caribbean’s most significant source markets: Miami.
Aeromexico is now flying daily nonstop service from Miami to Cancun, the result of the company’s expanded partnership with Delta.
The carrier is operating the daily flights on Boeing 737 MAX 8 planes, with main and premier cabins.
So what about cost? In January, Aeromexico’s most basic fare option, you’re looking at a price of about $481.61 roundtrip. In February, that price goes down to about $326 per night. It’s not the cheapest Miami-Cancun option — that would be Spirit, which shows rates of about $191 roundtrip, according to Google Flights (and it’s Spirit, so it’s never going to be that price when you add bags and more). But it’s on par with similar flights from Delta and American Airlines to Cancun out of Miami, both of which also show $326 in February.
Despite Cancun’s popularity, we think it remains a bit misunderstood by many travelers, particularly in the luxury segment. While yes, the Hotel Zone has a lot of big-box all-inclusive resorts that are all about volume, you can find some terrific luxury resorts across the Mexican Caribbean coastline — with a particular emphasis on service, where Mexico really tends to shine.
So where do we recommend staying right now?
If you branch out a bit outside of the Hotel Zone, you can find some fantastic new places to stay. That includes the first-ever SLS all-inclusive in Playa Mujeres (rooms at $1,173 right now), the aforementioned Almare in Isla Mujeres, which is just a short boat or ferry ride from mainland Cancun ($846 per night) or, in the so-called Riviera Cancun, one of our favorite Mexico resorts: the Grand Residences Riviera Cancun, which has some of the best service we’ve ever experienced (something that’s been true every time we stayed there) in the Caribbean and lovely, spacious rooms right on the beach in the charming little town of Puerto Morelos. You can find a room with its own jacuzzi for as low as $502.43 per night right now.
