Frontier Airlines Is Continuing Its Caribbean Expansion With a New Flight to the Island of Antigua

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - November 19, 2024

It’s the honeymoon capital of the Caribbean. It’s also the luxury all-inclusive capital of the Caribbean. It’s a burgeoning culinary hotspot, a wellness getaway and, well, one of the most beautiful Caribbean islands, period. And did we mention the 365 beaches?

Antigua and Barbuda has also been one of the fastest-growing destinations in the Caribbean in recent years, with another strong tourism surge so far in 2024.

And beginning early next year, the destination will be even easier to access, with plans for a new route between the air hub of San Juan, Puerto Rico and Antigua and Barbuda on Frontier Airlines.

The ultra-low-cost carrier is launching the new route to Antigua on Feb. 15, with service once every week.

It’s the first time Frontier will have flown to Antigua since it formerly operated a route between Orlando and Antigua last year.

The move opens up Antigua to the vast network of Frontier Airlines flights from the mainland United States to San Juan, meaning you can book your ticket and check your bags from any of those cities all the way to Antigua.

Frontier has been quietly building up its own Caribbean regional airline in the last years, adding flights out of San Juan to Caribbean islands like Barbados, the Dominican Republic and Trinidad, helping added much-needed airlift to the regional aviation sector.

It’s also creating connections for people without access to nonstop flights to those islands from the United States.

Are you planning a vacation to Antigua and Barbuda? As we said, it’s home to some of the best all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean, with a focus on intimate, boutique-style luxury resorts.

Some of our favorites? Of course the Hammock Cove resort, the island’s signature adults-only resort; the lovely, barefoot-chic Keyonna Beach Resort ($615); the adults-only Verandah Antigua, home to arguably the top pickleball offering in the Caribbean (and a resort we loved when we stayed there earlier this month, particularly it’s spectacular sports bar); and historic hotels like the Admiral’s Inn ($240 per night) in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site at Nelson’s Dockyard.

What about prices? You can fly the new Puerto Rico-Antigua route for as low as $163.77 round trip. Bear in mind that’s for the carrier’s lowest-fare route that doesn’t include a carry on.
