This Cancun-Area All-Inclusive Is Expanding With a New Idea for Family Resorts

By: Alexander Britell - November 15, 2024

If you’ve traveled with kids, you know it’s, well, not exactly the same as taking an adults-only vacation. There’s always the challenge of making your group blend in with the other guests. After all, every group of travelers has a different goal for their trip, a different personality. But a new resort in Cancun has a very cool new idea to solve the problem.

Mexico’s Xcaret is in the process of a big expansion, adding 900 rooms to what is already one of the larger hotels in Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean. But the expansion could be a game-changer for family and multi-generational travel.

You see, Xcaret is dividing the expansion into different “casas,” or little buildings and communities, with every one designed for families traveling with different-aged kids. One casa is specifically tailored for families with kids younger than 9. Another, for families traveling with teenagers. Every segment is covered. It’s rather clever.

It’s the latest evolution for Xcaret, which began life as an adventure park and in the last decade, it’s grown into an enviable portfolio of luxury all-inclusive resorts, from the signature Hotel Caret to the lovely new La Casa de la Playa boutique.

The hotel is adding 900 rooms.

The expansion, a $700 million project will make its debut next summer, the property told Caribbean Journal.

In all, Hotel Xcaret will have 1,800 rooms, set across a collection of “casas,” with each one designed for different ages and family groups.

That means certain “casas” for different ages: one for families with kids 9 years old and younger; another for those with kids between 10 and 12; and another for those with teenagers.

And yes, there will also be an adults-only Casa with rooms with their own rooftop and private restaurant.

More broadly, the hotel is going to have four rooftop pools, again split for different segments: two for families, one for adults, one for kids.

But it’s not just the rooms that are doubling. Xcaret is also adding 10 more dining concepts, including a Michelni-star restaurant called Ha.

Other amenities will include a “restaurant-movie theater”, a speakeasy and a special family0focused wellness destination.

It’s a very cool new idea that’s a nod to one of the biggest growth areas in travel: families traveling together, more often.

The idea is for “every family member, from the youngest to the eldest, to find a space they can enjoy together and build lasting memories,” Xcaret’s Lizeth Gorozave told Caribbean Journal.

The hotel is not yet available for booking, so prices have not yet been released.

The current Xcaret will cost you about $1204 per night, according to its website. In early December, you can get rooms for lower than that, at about $1,0001 per night. During the holiday season, rates jump to around $1848 per night.

The rates for the new property will likely be in that same spectrum; if the current reviews are any indication, it should be another win for the Mexican Caribbean hospitality brand.
