Jamaica Just Topped 2 Million Visitors for 2024, in “Remarkable Achievement”

By: Dana Niland - September 26, 2024

In another strong milestone for the island’s tourism efforts, Jamaica just topped 2 million stayover visitors so far in 2024, Caribbean Journal has learned.

Just over 2 million stayover visitors have already come to Jamaica through mid-September, according to the island’s tourism minister, Edmund Bartlett.

Overall, Jamaica has welcomed 3 million visitors, when you include cruise passengers.

“Surpassing 2 million stopover arrivals and welcoming some 3 million total visitors since the start of 2024 is a remarkable achievement for Jamaica,” Bartlett said in a statement provided to Caribbean Journal.

That has helped contribute $2.97 billion in tourism earnings to Jamaica.

The numbers are more impressive when you consider the challenges Jamaica faced with the passage of Hurricane Beryl, which devastated parts of the island’s southern coast.

“This reflects the strength and resilience of our tourism sector and the continued appeal of Jamaica as a premier travel destination,” Bartlett said.

CJ Expert Take: Jamaica is having another strong year, part of a post-pandemic trend that has seen the island reach new arrival heights. The country is now the second-most visited destination in the Caribbean after the Dominican Republic. While it’s unlikely to top the Dominican Republic any time soon, it will continue to reinforce the number two slot ahead of Cuba.
