The Caribbean Tourism Organization Just Named a New Research Director

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - September 22, 2024

Maybe you’ve seen the reports. The wide-ranging looks at tourism arrival data for destinations around the Caribbean. Outlooks for the crucial travel season ahead.

Destinations across the region rely on the Caribbean Tourism Organization for its broad-based tourism research, covering the macro and micro trends shaping the Caribbean’s most important economic driver.

And now the CTO has named a new executive to lead its research push: industry veteran Aliyyah Shakeer.

The CTO’s new Director of Research will lead the Barbados-based organization’s research initiatives and shape data-driven strategies to help push the Caribbean’s tourism competitiveness.

Aliyyah Shakeer.

“We are delighted to have Aliyyah Shakeer join our team as Director of Research,” said Dona Regis-Prosper, CEO and Secretary General of the CTO, in a statement provided to Caribbean Journal. “Her extensive experience in tourism research and strategy development will be invaluable as we work towards a more competitive and sustainable Caribbean tourism industry.”

Shakeer comes to the CTO after having served previously as Manager of Planning and Research at Trinidad’s Tourism Development Company and as a tourism research analyst in Trinidad and Tobago’s Ministry of Tourism.

She was most recently the international technical relations coordinator at Trinidad’s Ministry of Digital Transformation.

“I am excited to join the CTO team and contribute to the development of the region’s tourism sector,” Shakeer said. “I look forward to supporting our member countries and territories as they navigate the challenges and opportunities of today’s dynamic tourism landscape, ensuring that the Caribbean remains a leading global destination.”
