An Organization of American States electoral observation mission will oversee the legislative elections in El Salvador March 11, following an agreement on procedures signed Friday between the two parties.

The OAS mission will be headed by Dr Lourdes Flores Nano, a Peruvian lawyer and politician. The mission will be composed of 22 international observers from 13 OAS member and observer states.

Flores and the mission arrived in El Salvador Monday to begin meetings with electoral authorities, candidates, representatives of the international community and civil society groups.

Flores was previously a congresswoman in Peru and president of the Popular Christian Party, and a two-time presidential candidate.

The OAS is observing Wednesday’s election in Belize as well.
