Air carriers LIAT and Surinam Airways could begin service to Haiti, a possibility discussed by a CARICOM delegation at Monday’s meeting with Haitian President Michel Martelly.

LIAT and Surinam Airways are two of as many as three air carriers that could serve the country, according to the talks.

That possibility could be boosted by a plan to allow Haitians with US or Schengen visas to travel freely to CARICOM, something which would widen the potential number of passengers for the carriers.

While LIAT does not presently service the country, it is no stranger to Haiti, having made aircraft available to support the regional relief effort following the earthquake in Port-au-Prince.
