Miami-based developer Michael Capponi, who is leading a large redevelopment of the city of Jacmel in Haiti, announced that his firm would be building a 44-room boutique hotel in the city this year.
The hotel will be part of a resort that will ultimately include retail and touring capabilities.
Capponi is leading the development of the city in cooperation with the Jacmel Advisory Council.
According to the company, 99 percent of the construction employees it has hired are Haitian nationals from the local area.
In November, Haiti was leading the Caribbean in the number of total rooms under development.
