Playa Just Opened a New Punta Cana All-Inclusive, With a Huge Pool, Nine Eateries and a Soon-to-Open Splash Park
One of the biggest pools in the Dominican Republic. Nine bars. Nine restaurants. A soon-to-debut water park. Playa has officially opened its new all-inclusive resort in the Uvero Alto area of Punta Cana, and it’s instantly one of the hottest places to stay in the Dominican Republic’s tourism hub.
The new resort is the product of a partnership between Wyndham and Playa Hotels and Resorts, and the first Playa hotel to open since the company was acquired by Hyatt last month.
So what do you need to know about it?
It’s got 620 rooms, a spa, a fitness center, a kids club and what Wyndham describes as “one of the largest free-form pools in the Dominican Republic.”

That’s along with the huge food and beverage lineup, with five a la carte restaurants joined by concepts like a pizzeria and a cafe, along with nine watering holes, including an entertainment-focused bar called Twisted Olive.
What about the rooms at this resort? They all have stocked mini bars, free Wi-Fi and a patio or balcony.
And yes, the all-inclusive resort will soon be unveiling a water park called “Splash Island,” which will have a lazy river, slides and a splash pad. That is slated for a summer debut, the company told Caribbean Journal, and should be a huge boost. As we’ve said before, for families with kids, particularly littler ones, a water park is one of the most in-demand amenities right now.
It’s the newest Caribbean member of Wyndham’s “Alltra” all-inclusive brand, which is short for “all-inclusive travel for all.” Alltra resorts have now popped up in destinations like Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Samana in the Dominican Republic.
It’s also yet another member of Playa’s robust portfolio of all-inclusive resorts in the Dominican Republic, which now totals seven different properties across four different brands.
So what about prices? You can find rooms starting at $283 per night in March. That gets you a standard tropical-view double room.
There aren’t swim-out rooms, but you can book “pool walk-out rooms,” which basically means you can open your patio door and just take a few steps to the main pool. Those rooms start at $348 per night, all-inclusive.

It’s one of a number of options in Punta Cana and beyond right now, from the recently-opened Viva Miches by Wyndham (rooms at $304 per night on a spectacular beach in Miches, about an hour and 20 minutes from Punta Cana airport; and one of our Caribbean favorites, the excellent Lopesan Costa Bavaro on the heart of Punta Cana’s best beach. Rooms from $393 per night, all-inclusive.
You can find cheap flight options at Google Flights, with fares like $554 on American Airlines out of Miami.
