Delta Airlines Is Relaunching This Nonstop Caribbean Flight
The Caribbean’s largest concentration of celebrity-chef eateries and a vibrant local dining movement. World-class, uncrowded white-sand beaches. Some of the most fascinating historical sites in the region, from the Queen’s Staircase to a Pirate museum. And did we mention the art scene?
Nassau and Paradise Island are a cornucopia of attractions for the experiential travelers, whether you’re looking for a foodie getaway, an action-packed culture trip or some classic beach-hopping.
And now an important flight to Nassau’s Lynden Pindling International Airport is coming back this month, Caribbean Journal has learned.
Beginning Dec. 21, Delta Air Lines will be relaunching its nonstop service from Detroit to Nassau, with the return of a seasonal route from Wayne County Airport to the island of New Providence.
The weekly Saturday service is a key flight not just for travelers in metro Detroit but for much of the Great Lakes region.
It’s part of a growing collection of flights from the Midwest to the Caribbean, as the region continues to take advantage of growing travel demand from that part of the United States.
If you’re planning a vacation to Nassau and Paradise Island, the destination’s hotel product has never been better, from the transformed British Colonial (rates as low as $197 right now) to signature stays like the Atlantis Paradise Island Resort and the Baha Mar.
Another underrated property we love and have stayed at many times? The Paradise Island Beach Club, set on one of the most beautiful stretches of beach in the twin-island hotspot with large, comfortable villa-style rooms (Rooms from $359 per night).
Then there’s the aforementioned dining scene, part of a destination that’s all about getting out and exploring. If it’s your first trip to Nassau, there are some essentials, starting with the world-famous Graycliff, the fantastic Paranza at the Cove Atlantis and the Marcus Samuelsson’s Baha Mar outpost. That’s along with Potter’s Cay, the street-food paradise under the Paradise Island Bridge (learn more from our experience here, and, of course, the beloved Fish Fry on Arawak Cay. In Nassau, this is just the beginning of a restaurant collection that is as impressive as you’ll find in the wider Caribbean.
So what do the new flights cost?
For January travel, you can find flights in Delta’s basic fare class for $757 roundtrip, and $1,563 in first class. It’s a nonstop flight that takes just about three and a half hours. You can find more on Google Flights.
