American Airlines’ New Caribbean Flights Will Take You Nonstop to This Resort
You know the typical arrival protocol for a Caribbean trip. You fly to your destination, get off the plane, head to customs, get your bags and then take some kind of car or van to your hotel, usually taking somewhere between 15 minutes and an hour, depending on where the hotel is.
But what if you could fly directly into your hotel? It’s generally the area of private-island resorts that have their own airports – but it usually takes two flights to get to them.
At the Casa de Campo Resort and Villas in the Dominican Republic, though, the process will soon be an essential part of your vacation.
The 7,000-acre resort’s countless amenities also include a full international airport — and in a little over a month American Airlines will be launching scheduled nonstop flights from Miami.
That means you can hop on a plane at Miami International Airport, fly to La Romana, clear customs and put your bag on a golf cart — because your’e already at the resort.
The new route, which launches Dec. 5, will be operating every day of the week, with service on Boeing 737 aircraft, American Airlines confirmed.
It’s another big boost for a resort that has been one of the hottest places to stay in the Caribbean for decades — and even more so in the post-pandemic travel boom.
It comes as Casa de Campo is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its opening this year, with a series of events to mark the occasion this past weekend.
That followed the resort’s high-profile Food & Wine Festival, which held its second annual edition last week.
Are you planning a vacation to La Romana? You’ll find a property that’s arguably the most complete resort in the region, with everything from the Caribbean’s top golf offering (anchored by three courses designed by Pete Dye) to a brand-new luxury resort-within-a-resort that opened last year called the Premier Club.
The new American Airlines flights are already bookable; right now, they’re very good value too, with prices as low as $311 in the Main Cabin, according to AA.com. That includes some very affordable dates, depending on when you’re going, according to Google Flights.
For an itinerary Dec. 12-16, prices are as low as $285, for example. In January, you can pay as low as $127 one-way.
If you’re booking a stay at the resort, there are three main options: the classic resort, the Premier Club, and one of the resort’s hundreds of luxury staffed villas.
