Delta Air Lines is adding a brand-new nonstop route to St Maarten, Caribbean Journal has learned.
The company is planning to kick off a new route between Minneapolis-St Paul and St Maarten’s Princess Juliana International Airport this winter.
The new Minneapolis-St Maarten flight will be operating twice per week, with service on Thursdays and Saturdays.
It’s part of what has been a broader expansion by several carriers in the Minneapolis market, a nod to the area’s growing importance for Caribbean travel. (Delta is also adding a new flight to another Dutch Caribbean destination, Aruba, from Minneapolis later this year).
“The continued surge in international travel has been a key trend for MSP in recent years, and we are excited to see Delta add this new service,” said Brian Ryks, CEO of the Metropolitan Airports Commission, which operates Minneapolis-St Paul Airport. “With the addition of these new flights, Upper Midwest travelers now have their largest-ever range of options to Latin America and the Caribbean. It’s a great time to start planning that winter escape.”
