When it comes to wine lists in the Caribbean, there really is no competition: Nassau’s Graycliff hotel stands far above the rest, with several hundred thousand bottles in its cellar.
And now the legendary Bahamian hotel has been honored again, receiving six awards from The World of Fine Wine.
That includes wins for Best Hotel Wine List; Best Champagne and Sparkling Wine List; Best Dessert and Fortified Wine List; Best Sake List; Best Long Wine List and Best Spirits List.
The awards are judged according to a “rigorous protocol” and an intensive judging process by an independent panel including masters of wine, master sommeliers and a world champion sommelier.
It’ a testament to the lifelong work of Graycliff owner Enrico Garzaroli, whose love for wines first led him to envision a five-star restaurant experience — one that would turn into the world-renowned Graycliff.
Of course, it’s not just wine — the hotel has one of the world’s largest collections of cognac, scotch and Caribbean rum.
Earlier this year, the hotel was awarded the first-ever Blue Plaque from the UK government for its showcasing of English wine and food.
“A true validation of Graycliff’s commitment to excellence,” said Garzaroli. “This recognition by ‘The World of Fine Wine’ solidifies our position among the top destinations for wine and spirits lovers in the world. It is incredibly rewarding to curate a collection that reflects our team’s passion for the quality and variety our patrons have come to expect.”
It all adds up to one of the Caribbean’s greatest gourmet destinations – and a global pilgrimage stop for wine lovers.
