Utopia of the Seas arrives in Nassau.

The Caribbean’s newest cruise ship has officially called on the Caribbean’s most popular cruise port.

Royal Caribbean’s new Utopia of the Seas made its first visit to the Nassau Cruise Port on Sunday. The visit came as part of a broader arrival of more than 26,000 cruise passengers on six ships that day.

The ship was welcomed with a live music by two bands from Falcon Entertainment, concluding with a Bahamian concert in the port’s amphitheater.

The new ship is tailored for shorter getaways.

“The arrival of Utopia of the Seas created an incredible buzz here because of the significance of this unique event to our community,” said Mike Maura, CEO of Nassau Cruise Port. “This oasis-class ship dedicated to The Bahamas means potentially 16,000 passengers are coming straight to Nassau each week, pouring into our economy. This is a call to action for entrepreneurs and business owners to get creative with their products, services, and brands to share our Bahamian culture, history, identity and experiences. This will not only allow us to sustain the increase in passengers but also increase those numbers and expand to other islands in The Bahamas.”

The new ship is Royal Caribbean’s first ship geared toward short getaways from South Florida — with Nassau a major focal point.

As Royal Caribbean describes it, the point is to “flip the script” on short trips, with a design custom-built for “weekend energy.”
