Cruise passengers are looking for shorter trips. That seems to be the trend of late, with cruise giant Royal Caribbean making a major push to cater to what it calls “short getaway” itineraries.
The company calls it “flipping the script on short getaways,” with the upcoming debut of the new Utopia of the Seas ship in Port Canaveral next week.
The ship is tailor-made for “weekend energy,” with 40 different dining and drinking concepts, a Caribbean tiki bar and a special lineup of parties.
The idea is for shorter cruises, typically around three or four days in length. Utopia’s three-day jaunts will include stops in The Bahamas, both in Nassau and at Royal’s private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay.
The ship has already arrived in Florida, with its first cruise planned for July 19.
But it’s not just Royal Caribbean. Its sister brand, Celebrity, is also unveiling a new lineup of what it calls “short Caribbean itinerary” cruises, based on feedback from longtime guests.
In other words, it’s likely a trend we’re going to see a lot more of.
