Frontier Just Launched a New Dominican Republic Route

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - June 28, 2024

Maybe you know Punta Cana, or Santo Domingo, or La Romana. But there’s one place in the Dominican Republic that’s seeing particularly significant growth in the last few years: Santiago de los Caballeros.

The area south of Puerto Plata has been seeing a wave of new flights, as the Dominican Republic looks to broaden its tourism growth to areas beyond traditional hubs like Punta Cana.

Last week, the city got another new flight, this time from San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Ultra-low-cost carrier Frontier Airlines has begun a new route etween San Juan and Santiago.

The new, brief flight is operation three times per week right now, creating an easy connection both for travelers from Puerto Rico and, more significantly, from the host of cities that fly from the mainland US to San Juan.

That means you can head from the US, land in San Juan and quickly pop over to Santiago, accessing the attractions in Cibao and the popular resorts of Puerto Plata.

So what does it cost?

Right now, fares are starting at just $79, according to Frontier.
