Carnival is Making Its New Grand Bahama Cruise Port Bigger
In what is expected to be a massive boost for Grand Bahama, Carnival Cruise Line is in the process of building a brand-new cruise destination on the island called Celebrtaion Key, which is slated to open in 2025.
Now, Carnival says it will be making the destination even bigger, with plans to add a $100 million extension of the pier that will “double the arrival capacity” of the port.
“We are on the brink of an exciting chapter for Grand Bahama, with Carnival Corporation’s expansion opening doors to unprecedented possibilities for our residents,” said Member of Parliament Ginger Moxey. “Let us collectively gear up for this transformative journey, as the spin-off opportunities are bound to bring about a wave of prosperity touching every corner of our beloved island.”
The project will also see the addition of two more cruise berths, with all of them having the capacity to accommodate the brand’s largest ships.
Carnival says it expects to welcome as many as 4 million cruise passengers to Grand Bahama by the year 2028.
Grand Bahama has been seeing growth on the cruise side in recent years, notably with the debut of the Margaritaville at Sea cruise line, which regularly sails between South Florida and Grand Bahama.
“As is fitting for our plans for Grand Bahama island, our vision for Celebration Key is quite grand, and we’re already thinking about the next phase of expansion and development,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “Building the second pier now allows us to implement growth plans and build itineraries with certainty, and signals to the local community just how important this development is to Carnival Cruise Line and the future of the island.”
The moves only further cement The Bahamas’ place as the Caribbean’s biggest cruise powerhouse, including Grand Bahama, Nassau (which just opened its own new-look port) and the host of private-island destinations most cruise giants have in The Bahamas.
