Puerto Rico Keeps Up Sizzling Passenger Growth

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - October 6, 2023 - 11:46 am

Puerto Rico’s air passenger traffic continues to skyrocket, according to new data from Mexican company ASUR, which manages the island’s primary air hub, Luis Munoz Marin International Airport.

Passenger traffic in San Juan was 779,645 in September, a 24.1 percent increase compared to September 2022.

That was buoyed by a 46.4 percent increase in international traffic, thanks in part to increased flights from Spanish carrier Iberia.

For the year to date, airport traffic in San Juan is up 20.2 percent, standing at a total of 9.276,974.

Puerto Rico tourism officials do not regularly release tourism arrival statistics, but it’s likely those are well correlated with the passenger traffic jump.
