Passenger traffic in Puerto Rico was ahead of its pre-pandemic levels last year, according to newly-released data from Mexican company ASUR, which manages the island’s Luis Munoz Marin International Airport.
In 2022, San Juan’s air hub reported passenger traffic of 20,823,221, a 9.1 percent jump over the calendar year 2019.
Traffic was also 6.5 percent higher than 2021, according to the company.
That included just under one million passengers in December 2022, itself a 6.4 percent increase over the final month of 2019.
Puerto Rico has seen tremendous tourism numbers since the onset of the pandemic, driven by its ease of access as a Caribbean destination that does not require passports to US travelers.
