The Dominican Republic has approved a new route from Canada to the popular tourism destination of Puerto Plata.

The country’s Civil Aviation Board has given the nod to a new Sunwing flight that will operate from now through Oct. 18, 2022, tourism officials announced this week.

The Iberostar Costa Dorada resort in Puerto Plata.

The flight will be operating once weekly on Tuesdays, according to Dominican tourism officials.

That will add nearly 5,300 seats over the summer and shoulder season.

The Dominican Republic is a major stronghold for Sunwing; the Canadian travel giant brought more than 171,500 passengers to the Dominican Republic from the beginning of this year through May.
