Jamaica’s Legendary Reggae Sumfest Is Back

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - May 22, 2022

The legendary Reggae Sumfest is back this year, with the legendary festival set to be held in person for the first time since before the pandemic.

This year’s event will be held from July 18 to July 23 at Catherine Hall in Montego Bay.

It’s historically been the largest reggae festival in the Caribbean.

Some of this year’s headliners include Beenie Man, Spragga Benz, Koffee and Beres Hammond, among others.

“Reggae Sumfest is known to be the greatest reggae show in the world. Jamaica is its birthplace, so we are excited to be partners in this to make sure that more and more people come to us,” said Jamaica Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett.

The launch of this year’s edition comes as Jamaica continues to see strong tourism numbers.

Bookings are also already “good” for June and July, according to Nadine Spence, the Montego Bay chapter chairman of the Jamaica Hotel and Tourism.

“Bookings are steady and surpass the same period last year,” she said, which would be very strong numbers considering last summer’s tourism boom.

“Events, festivals, exhibitions, meetings and conventions are huge traffic builders; they are drivers of visitors to destinations and so we encourage and support events of this nature,” Bartlett said. “We’re very happy to be associated with it again this year; the recovery is critical and in recovering we want to do it better and bigger.”
