Cancun Matches Pre-Pandemic Air Traffic

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - February 13, 2022

Cancun matched its pre-pandemic air passenger traffic in January, according to parent company ASUR.

Cancun International Airport reported total passenger traffic of just under 2.192 million in January, up 0.2 percent over January 2019.

That also represented a 70 percent increase over the same period in 2021, according to the company.

The strong January came in spite of the rise of the Omicron variant, which disrupted travel around the globe last month.

Cancun has experienced among the strongest tourism rebounds of any destination in the wider Caribbean since the onset of the pandemic, including a surge in new airlift.

ASUR also manages other airports in Colombia, Mexico and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
