Turks and Caicos Reaches Major Vaccination Milestone

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - June 13, 2021

It’s now one of the most vaccinated countries in the world: the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Turks and Caicos has received an Alert Level 1 rating from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in the wake of the British Overseas Territory’s having given at least one dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine to more than 65 percent of its adult population.

The country’s strong rate, coupled with successful safety protocols, has curbed the spread of the virus in the territory, allowing what officials called “continuous safe travel” since it reopened for tourism in July 2020.

“We are very proud that the majority of our adult population is vaccinated, helping us to keep the curve flat and earn an Alert Level 1 from the CDC for safe travel to the Turks and Caicos Islands,” said Turks and Caicos Tourism Minister Josephine Connolly. “We are grateful to our valued tourism industry partners for supporting the Turks and Caicos Islands’ efforts by initiating property-specific campaigns, and to the community for their vigilance in getting vaccinated and adhering to protocols. We still require international travelers to become certified by TCI Assured, our quality assurance portal, before visiting the Islands to ensure everyone’s wellbeing.”

Around 55 percent of Turks and Caicos’ adult population is now fully vaccinated.

Turks and Caicos has also received the Safe Travels Stamp from the World Travel Council.
