There’s a new luxury resort community project that’s quietly launched in the Caribbean: the Barbuda Ocean Club, Caribbean Journal Invest has learned.
Discovery Land Company, the developer and operator of some of the world’s most exclusive residential club communities and resorts, has a new project in still-pristine Barbuda.
Discovery Land Company, whose signature Caribbean project had been the Baker’s Bay golf community in Abaco, is calling Barbuda Ocean Club “the Caribbean’s most exclusive private beachfront community.”
It’s a major injection of investment energy into Barbuda, which was almost totally destroyed by Hurricane Irma in 2017.
The project will be a collection of “fewer than 100” total residences, according to the company, with a total land mass of 164 acres.
Turnkey units will range from two to six bedrooms, along with an array of homesite options from 80 to 125 feet wide and lot sizes from .5 acre to 1.5 acres.
Most notably, the Barbuda Ocean Club will feature a Tom Fazio-designed, 18-hole championship golf course.
It’s all set at the former site of the Coco Point Lodge, which was destroyed by Irma in 2017,
It’s the first of several projects in development in Barbuda to take a significant step forward; another highly anticipated one is that of Hollywood legend and hotelier Robert De Niro, who still has plans to redevelop the former K-Club resort in Barbuda.
It’s not yet clear if the project will be part of Antigua and Barbuda’s Citizenship by Investment program, which has help fuel the twin-island country’s full-fledged hotel boom in recent years, one that has drawn a host of new hotel brands from Waldorf-Astoria to Rosewood, among others.
