One of the world’s newest cruise ships has made its first visit to the island of St Maarten on Friday.
TUI Cruises’ Mein Schiff 6 cruise ship, which first made its debut in September, became the latest vessel to make its inaugural call in St Maarten since Irma.
TUI, which largely caters to the German market; the company is a joint venture of the German travel firm TUI and Royal Caribbean.
Mein Schiff 6 has a total of 15 decks, with 90 percent of cabins boasting ocean views and 82 percent featuring private balconies.
The ship has a capacity of 2,700 passengers and 1,000 crew.
While the island of St Maarten is still facing an uphill climb to restore its land-based tourism sector, its cruise industry has been another matter, seeing a remarkable comeback since Port St Maarten reopened in November.
