There are small hotels and then there are really small hotels; petit boutiques with five rooms or fewer, where you’re welcomed like family but treated like a visiting dignitary. In the Caribbean (as in the rest of the world) such sanctuaries aren’t easy to find. But we’ve zeroed in on four tiny retreats that offer relaxing respite from everyday cares. Here are the best micro-hotels in the Caribbean.
CarriEarl Boutique Hotel It only has four rooms (all air-conditioned and with WI-FI) but this little gem in the Bahamas’ Berry Islands is a big deal, with “the best restaurant in the Berry Islands” and an Instagram-worthy oceanview pool, all just a minute’s walk from the magnificent white-sand stretch at Great Harbour Cay.
Bayaleau Point Cottages With four charming cottages that are as simple as their names (Blue, Green, Yellow and Red), this Windward Bay, Carriacou oasis is the perfect getaway for low-maintenance, nature-loving travelers.
Casa Sol Live like a local (if only temporarily) in the heart of Puerto Rico’s historic Old San Juan district, where a centuries-old building has been transformed into a homey bed-and-breakfast, complete with five air-conditioned rooms.
Manta House On the tiny Turks and Caicos Islands outpost of Grand Turk, a mere three bungalows are just steps from dive shops, the turquoise Caribbean and The Sandbar, a super-cool beach bar and restaurant run by this historic Front Street inn’s owners.
Shannas Cove Resort Serenity and solitude is almost guaranteed when you stay at this family-run hotel on Cat Island in the Bahamas, where guests in just five bungalows can claim the magnificent white-sand sweep for themselves.
