How to Stay in a Chalet in the Caribbean

The British Virgin Islands are probably the last place you’d expect to find Norwegian chalets. But trust us, they do exist.

On Peter Island Resort & Spa, a clutch of charming A-frame cottages has enjoyed pride of place at the BVI’s largest private-island resort for decades.

They were originally imported in pieces from Norway (where Peter Island’s first owners originated) and then painstakingly reassembled amid the tropical gardens at the 1,800-acre resort.

Today the chalets house 32 of the resort’s 52 rooms: 18 oceanview suites on the upper floor, and, on the ground floor, 14 deluxe oceanview digs.

Offering 384 square-feet of luxury complete with a private patio, standalone soaking tub and a complimentary minibar, they promise a vacation experience that’s as plush and cozy as staying in a Nordic chalet. Just a whole lot warmer.
