Puerto Rico Sets New Single-Day Cruise Passenger Record
Puerto Rico welcomed 24,117 cruise passengers on Wednesday, a new single-day record for the island.
The Port of San Juan took in the passengers, surpassing the previous high of 17,847 cruise arrivals set Feb. 25, 2015.
The passengers came in on six ships: Carnival Glory, Carnival Magic, Royal Caribbean’s Anthem and Navigator of the Seas, Norwegian Breakaway and Fred. Olsen’s cruise ship Balmoral.
Officials at the Puerto Rico Tourism Company said the intake represented an economic impact of more than $2.2 million to the Puerto Rican economy.
The record comes after Puerto Rico spent $10.5 million on a major expansion project on its Pier 3 in San Juan, which has helped allow for the arrival of 99 ships in two years that would not have previously been accommodated.
