The Bahamas’ Marsh Harbour Airport has a new name: Leonard M. Thompson International Airport.
The airport, which is the most important airport in the Abaco chain of the Bahamas, will be officially renamed during a ceremony on July 7.
The airport has recently been redeveloped at a cost of $30 million, with a new aerodrome including Bahamian shops and restaurants.
The government said it was also finalizing a technical cooperation agreement with Vantage Airport Group, current managers of Nassau’s Lynden Pindling International Airport, to enhance the airport’s management.
“We are positioning this airport to become a premier airport facility not only in The Bahamas but in the region: It is no surprise therefore, that successive governments are in full consensus as to the appropriateness of renaming this important facility after this native son of the Abaco soil,” the government said in a statement.
