Hilton Is Expanding to Belize

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - June 15, 2016

Hilton is continuing its regional expansion in the Caribbean with a new hotel brand in Belize.

Curio, the collection by Hilton that’s been making its way to the region of late (most notably in Jamaica), will debut in Belize with the soon-to-open Resort at Mahogany Bay Village.

The hotel, which will be known as The Resort at Mahogany Bay Village, Curio Collection by Hilton, will be the company’s first property in Belize.

The self-styled “rustic-chic” resort is located in San Pedro on Ambergris Caye, about 15 miles from the mainland and 10 minutes from San Pedro Airport.

The 205-room hotel will be a mix of cottage and villa-style guestrooms, set on a 60-acre property that will also include private residences, bay and beach clubs, a spa, meeting space and a social center called “The Village.”

“The opportunity to develop The Resort at Mahogany Bay Village came at an opportune time and with a well-matched partner,” said Juan Corvinos, managing director for development in Central America, Andean and Hispanic Caribbean regions for Hilton Worldwide. “Paired with Mahogany Bay’s hospitality expertise, eco-friendly practices and focus on supporting the local community, our first Hilton Worldwide property in Belize will elevate accommodation offerings in the country and allow travelers to discover the true local flavor and spectacular natural beauty of Ambergris Caye and Belize.”

The aforementioned “Village” will include everything from a craft and farmer’s market to scuba and fishing operators to a Taco Shack.

The Hilton Belize property will be highlighted by a 22,000-square-foot Great House including three floors and 8,000 square feet of meeting space.

“The Resort at Mahogany Bay Village will be a borderless community that encourages travelers to get out and experience all that Belize has to offer,” said Beth Clifford, president of Mahogany Bay Management, Ltd. “Combining the authentic local spirit of the Curio collection and the one-of-a-kind character of Belize, the resort will provide a unique guest experience and serve as the perfect base camp for our guests’ Belizean adventures.”
