A Caribbean Mermaid Pool

If you’re going ga-ga over all things mermaid-related, you might want to head to CHIC Punta Cana, where there’s a pool with your name on.

Occupying center stage at the Uvero Alto adults-only all-inclusive resort, the elevated pool, which is open exclusively to guests staying in Diamond Club-level suites, features glass windows on either side that allow passersby to watch your (hopefully impressive) underwater swimming skills.

Turns out that holding your breath while simultaneously contorting your body for the camera and trying to hold a pose isn’t as easy as it looks  – at least, it wasn’t for us.

And after a few humbling attempts we realized that a career as a free diver was definitely not in our future.

Oh, well. We soothed the sting of defeat with an ice-cold Amaretto sour on the Mermaid pool’s deck, where our chaise, complete with a canopy shaped like a mermaid’s tail, offered comfy consolation.
