Puerto Rico is seeing strong growth in tourism, according to the latest data.
Puerto Rico reported 1.737 million stayover visitors in 2015, a 6.6 percent increase compared to 2014, according to tourism data provided to Caribbean Journal by the Puerto Rico Tourism Company.
The island had a combined 5 million visitors considering cruise and stayover arrivals, up from 4.4 million in 2014.
Hotel occupancy on the island also broke a record, reaching 71 percent for the year, and an average room rate of $160 per night, also a record for Puerto Rico.
Overall, the influx of tourists in 2015 contributed nearly $4 billion to the Puerto Rican economy.
