Puerto Rico’s Hospitality Growth

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - February 24, 2016

Puerto Rico has seen an improvement in its hotel stock in recent years, according to Governor Alejandro Garcia Padilla.

Last year, Puerto Rico added about 500 hotel rooms to its offerings, according to the Governor, with a 73 percent overall hotel occupancy rate and a 2 percent year-over-year improvement in occupancy.

In the last three years, Puerto Rico has added 829 hotel rooms, a 54 percent jump over the island’s hotel situation in 2012.

That’s been boosted in part by Puerto Rico’s new posada program, which has added a host of new inns and bed and breakfasts to the country’s already-diverse hotel stock.

“Countless companies have realized that Puerto Rico is much more than tax incentives and good conditions for business development,” Padilla said. “All of them know that those who invest capital and create jobs on the Island, will gain a government partner willing to work with them hand-in-hand for the success of the company and for the betterment of Puerto Rico.”
