Courtyard by Marriott Coming to Nassau

An old hotel gets a new brand

By Alexander Britell

NASSAU  —One of Nassau’s best-known hotels is getting a new look and a new brand.

The former Nassau Palm hotel in downtown Nassau will soon become a Courtyard by Marriott, according to Joy Jibrilu, director general of the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism.

The announcement was made during the CHTA Caribbean Travel Marketplace at Atlantis Paradise Island on Friday.

The hotel recently underwent a major transformation project that completely gutted the property, has held a soft opening under the Sunset Resort name.

That will change later this year, when the Courtyard brand debuts — most likely around April.

Half of the property’s 201 rooms are already open, and the project also plans to build a walkway over Bay Street for pedestrians.

Courtyard has been expanding rapidly in the Caribbean, with new hotels in Jamaica and Guyana that debuted last year.
