How This Jamaican Chef Is Making History

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - January 17, 2016

Chef Randie Anderson, the executive chef at the Montego Bay Convention Centre, is making history.

Anderson is the first-ever Caribbean chef to receive the James Beard Foundation Scholarship to study at the Le Cordon Bleu Master of Gastronomic Tourism program.

The 35-year-old executive chef is applying the scholarship at Le Cordon Bleu-Australia Adelaide & Melbourne during this academic year.

“For me, attending the Le Cordon Bleu is a dream come true.  A renowned culinary school worldwide it can’t get any better than that,” he said.

The grant applies $5,300 to be applied at Le Cordon Bleau.

“I have always known of the James Beard Foundation, and although I did not doubt myself, I never imagined I would have been awarded based on the competitive nature of the process,” he said. “I feel like the Queen has invited me to cook!”
