Haiti President Michel Martelly has named Florence Duperval Guillaume the country’s new Prime Minister.
Guillaume has been appointed on an interim basis to replace former Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe, who stepped down last week in a bid to ease growing tensions between the country’s branches of government.
She had been serving as the country’s Health Minister since a Cabinet reshuffle in 2013.
Guillaume can only serve a maximum of one month before the country chooses a permanent Prime Minister, an appointment which must be ratified by Parliament.
That has been easier said than done in the past for Martelly, who had difficulty finding approval for choices for Prime Minister at the beginning of his presidential term.
