Organization of American States Secretary General Jose Miguel Insulza met Thursday with the new president of Costa Rica, Luis Guillermo Solis, following the latter’s inauguration.

Solis succeeds former Costa Rican President Laura Chinchilla.

The two sides discussed the “priorities of the new Costa Rican government,” according to a statement from the OAS.

Insulza offered his best wishes for the four-year term that began on Thursday, expressing his confidence that “new administration would continue to contribute substantively to the work of the OAS, in particular in the fight against inequality, not only in the economy but also in terms of justice, politics, and access to services such as education and health.”

Insulza also met with a number of other presidents from Latin America and the Caribbean in the context of the inauguration, including President of Bolivia, Evo Morales; the President of the Dominican Republic, Danilo Medina; the Vice President of Argentina, Amado Boudou; the new Foreign Minister of Costa Rica, Manuel González; the Foreign Minister of Bolivia, David Choquehuanca; the Foreign Minister of Mexico, José Antonio Meade and the Foreign Minister of Panama, Francisco Alvarez de Soto, among others.

Thursday’s inauguration was also attended by Dominican Republic President Danilo Medina.
