Vietnam is looking to formally establish diplomatic relations with Trinidad and Tobago, according to Nguyen Van Dao, special envoy of Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.
The envoy, Nguyen Van Dao, made the revelation following a meeting with Foreign Minister Winston Dookeran in Trinidad last week.
He said formal ties between Trinidad and Vietnam would “further our bilateral relationship and facilitate more meaningful engagement between the both countries.”
Vietnam is no stranger to the Caribbean, having worked with a number of countries in the region, including Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Grenada and Cuba, among others.
In a statement, the two sides said there were “many areas that would be identified for future cooperation.”
