Haiti has officially been named the host country for what will be the 12th edition of the CARIFESTA regional cultural festival in 2015.
Haiti’s Tourism Ministry had announced in April that it would be hosting the fete in 2015, but Suriname President Desi Bouterse formally handed over the “cultural baton” to Haiti President Michel Martelly at the CARIFESTA closing ceremonies this week.
Martelly has said he has already been seeking assistance from Suriname’s planning committee. He attended the closing ceremonies this weekend before returning to Port-au-Prince on Monday.
Haitian star Wyclef Jean was among the artists on hand for this year’s CARIFESTA in Paramaribo.
