Peter Beckingham has been appointed the new Governor of the Turks and Caicos Islands, the United Kingdom announced.
Beckingham will be succeeding Governor Ric Todd, who will be transferring to “another diplomatic service appointment,” according to a statement.
Beckingham, who is currently the Deputy High Commissioner in India, will take over as Governor in October.
“I am honoured and delighted to have been appointed Governor of the Turks and Caicos Islands,” he said in a statement. “I look forward to working with the elected government there to strengthen the Islands’ prosperity, and helping to support, with my wife, their rich culture, world-class environment and important relationship with the UK.”
He is a former Ambassador to the Philippines, former Consul General and Director General of Trade and Investment Sydney and director of British Information Services New York, among other posts.
Todd had been appointed Governor in the summer of 2011.
