A large-scale fire led to guest evacuations yesterday at the Wyndham hotel in Kingston and damaged several portions of the property.

Operations have been suspended at the 303-guest-room property, which is located at 77 Knutsford Boulevard in New Kingston.

A spokesman for the Jamaica Fire Brigade told Caribbean Journal that the fire had been under control since Thursday. The blaze caused major road blockages on Thursday.

Two firefighters received “minor injuries” due to the fire, although they were treated and released.

The spokesman also said no guests received any major injuries, but one person was taken to hospital.

The cause of the blaze is still unclear, he said.

“We know that it started in the kitchen, but investigations are currently being carried out,” he said.

It’s not clear when the property will resume operations. The telephone line at the hotel was busy.
