St Kitts and Nevis recently agreed to a cooperation “road map” with the government of Morocco, following a visit by a Moroccan delegation to the twin-island federation.

The road map was the product of discussions between Prime Minister Dr Denzil Douglas and Ambassador Nasser Bourita.

“I have long believed that one of the most important form of international assistance is skills transfer,” he said this week. “And so I am very pleased to be able to share with you the fact that training will constitute a major component of the enhanced collaboration between our Federation and Morocco under this Roadmap.”

Junior diplomats, small farmers, aspiring French speakers and technical and vocational students will be eligible to receive training from Morocco, he said.
“In addition, there will be collaboration in the areas of electricity and water management, and there will be mid-year cultural exchanges between Moroccan and

Kittitian-Nevisian children,” he said. “We will cooperate in our mutual fight against illegal immigration, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and terrorism, as well as our shared commitment to strengthen international resolve to address climate change.”

Douglas also said Morocco would be giving the country a $1 million grant, saying that it would be used in an area of “strategic importance to the federation, as identified by the government of St Kitts and Nevis.”

The Moroccan delegation was recently on a Caribbean tour that included stops in St Lucia and Grenada as well.
